Tailgate Thursday w/ Algeria Latin Combo @ Stinson Vineyards

  • Stinson Vineyards (map)

Join us on Thursday, July 12, 6-9pm to enjoy live music by Algeria Latin Combo, featuring Matty Metcalfe and Peter Richardson!

Alegria is Peter Richardson’s Latin supergroup, drawing on the best musicians in Charlottesville, Richmond, DC and beyond to create the perfect combo for any situation. Alegria can comprise an instrumental jazz trio playing Samba and Bossa favorites – or a Salsa orchestra complete with vocals, horns, and authentic Cuban strings & percussion.

Peter Richardson has been a lover of music and the guitar for most of his life. He began his formal study of the guitar at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington D.C. Since graduating in 1988, he has studied a wide variety of musical styles with many accomplished musicians including : Joe Pass, Paul Bollenback, William Kannengeiser, Marija Temo, and Charlie Byrd. His studies have taken him all over the U.S. as well as to Spain and Brazil.

Matty Metcalfe is an accomplished and versatile musician and
ethnomusicologist who is equally at home in the studio and performance venues as he is in the classroom. His mastery of many different instruments, from piano and accordion to banjo and guitar, coupled with his ability to seamlessly move between and within musical styles keeps him busy as both a session and touring musician. Mr. Metcalfe also enjoys teaching master classes that demonstrate the connections within and between musical art
forms through cultures and time—links that add to an ever-evolving pool of styles that comprise ‘world’ music. His interactive lecture on the origins and evolution of blues music was recently featured in a ‘Music and Leadership Symposium’ presented at the Federal Executive Institute (FEI) while his credentials as a performing musician have led to tours and album credits with acts from Nashville, TN to Galway, Ireland and to stages such as the
Kennedy Center and the Grand Ole Opry.

We'll continue to fire up the grills and host live music on the patio every Thursday, through August 30, from 6 to 9 pm.

Bring your own food to grill, or purchase meats from our tasting room farm stand, and enjoy a fun, laid back night at the vineyard. With free admission and live music on the patio, it's the perfect way to start your almost-weekend. Don't forget to pack lawn games and picnic blankets. Children and leashed dogs are welcome!

Meat from Free Union Grass Farm can be purchased and thawed by calling ahead. General thaw times are 20 to 40 minutes. For larger cuts and whole chickens, calling a day in advance is suggested.

Severe inclement weather may cancel the event - check our website to stay on top of updates and weekly lineups. **Please note that due to VA ABC regulations, the only alcohol that can be consumed on the property must be wine purchased from the tasting room during the duration of the event.**
