Taste of Monticello - The Rise of Virginia Wine: A Tour of Where it Started at BBV

  • Barboursville Vineyards

Join Winemaker Luca Paschina, who has been at Barboursville since 1990 and crafted many of its most notable wines, on a tour of where the rebirth of Virginia wine occurred.

In the mid-1970s Virginia wine was still recovering from the effects of prohibition and wasn’t near the same levels of production or quality as when Charlottesville had a thriving Monticello Wine Company 100 years prior.

Many view the turning point for modern Virginia wine as when the Zonin family founded Barboursville in 1976. With their renewed efforts and enthusiasm, wine of the region would soon be gathering international recognition.

The focus of this tour will be on Barboursville’s role in the rise of Virginia wine, how they turned a passion into a successful operation, and where they see their legacy growing from here.

The tour will conclude in the Library 1821 with a special tasting of 6 select wines.
